La empresa mexicana Composcan lleva a cabo un programa piloto en la Ciudad de México para producir energía eléctrica a partir de las heces de perros mediante el uso de un biodigestor, de acuerdo con Manufactura.com
En la capital del país radican alrededor de 2 millones de perros que generan alrededor de 700 toneladas diarias de heces, lo que significa un problema de salud, indicó el cofundador de la firma, Alfredo Cuesta Godoy.
La empresa se hará cargo de recolectar los desechos que se hayan depositado en los contenedores durante el transcurso del día para convertir el abono en energía eléctrica funcional, comentó Cuesta Godoy en entrevista para la Agencia Informativa del Conacyt.
De acuerdo con el proyecto, donde también participan Fernando Leyva Hernández y el diseñador industrial Eduardo Olivares Guevara, al fermentarse las heces, los residuos producen gas metano.
“En especial, las heces caninas se descomponen rápidamente y pueden producir una gran cantidad de gas metano. Para hacerlo más eficiente, utilizaríamos un residuo vegetal para crear una especie de mezcla, con el fin de que la energía sea más abundante”, dijo Cuesta Godoy.
La energía que se podría producir con las heces caninas beneficiaría a gran parte de la Ciudad de México, ya que con dos toneladas se puede generar electricidad para más de 100 casas diario y una gran cantidad de fertilizantes, aseguran los desarrolladores.
Para funcionar, Composcan requiere de los ciudadanos, por ello, la firma desarrollará un plan para concientizar e invitar a los dueños a depositar los desechos de sus mascotas en los contenedores especiales.
“La sociedad tiene que entender que no solo es un problema estético, es un grave problema de contaminación del aire y de salud”, señaló Cuesta Godoy.
