Se celebró en la ciudad de México el Foro Internacional Ciudad de México, Desarrollo Sustentable y Cambio Climático, donde el investigador Jesús Álvarez Flores ha hecho unas declaraciones muy acertadas sobre los asentamientos urbanos.
Él precisó que se deben promulgar leyes que impidan el crecimiento desmedido de los municipios, que por el momento no tienen ningún tipo de reglamentación que realmente sea amable con el medio ambiente.
“Las ciudades están creciendo en áreas de alto valor ecológico y no tenemos los mecanismos adecuados para evitarlo. El caso de los grandes problemas de inundaciones y grandes zonas de asentamientos humanos afectados es resultado de la falta de control” Jesús Álvarez Flores
Señala que en los últimos 12 años las ciudades han crecido sin control y que esto ha impactado de forma negativa al medio ambiente, ya que la gente en busca de un lugar tranquilo para vivir ha optado por salirse de las urbes pero seguir trabajando dentro de ellas, lo que ha ocasionado desplazamientos innecesarios y un crecimiento sin planeación.
“No se tuvo una coordinación adecuada del sector desarrollo urbano con los constructores y esto hizo que en un momento dado se disparara la construcción de vivienda en todo el territorio nacional, dificultando a la gente la posibilidad de transportarse a sus centros de trabajo, porque además no tenían servicios” J. Álvarez Flores
En años anteriores al 2000 lo que se buscaba era un crecimiento masivo de nuevas áreas, que incluso otorgaban subidos a los grupos constructores, ahora la política tiene que cambiar al lado contrario, evitar la vivienda desmedida y aprovechar los espacios con los que ya se cuenta.
